Twenty-four-hour urinary cyclic AMP levels were measured in patients with endogenous depression and neurotic depression and in control subjects. Urinary cyclic AMP excretion was found to be decreased in both endogenous and neurotic depressions and could not be used to distinguish between these two. The 24-hour urinary cyclic AMP levels increased to control values in the patients with both types of depression as they responded to treatment.
